To All Who Have Been Abused

You know what’s hard…

Going to work and being treated with kindness.
Being appreciated for the hard work you put in.
Knowing you’re being paid fairly for the value you bring.
Having people empower you rather than manipulate you.

Feeling safe and living in a home where there’s peace.
In a home where you’re encouraged to grow rather than criticised.

Having adults in your life who exhibit maturity and responsibility.
Having people in your life who make you feel at peace.
Having people in your life who celebrate your victories.
Having people in your life who speak life over you.

Feeling safe enough to sleep through the whole night.
Feeling comfortable enough to relax when your back’s turned to others.
Feeling secure in the knowledge that the people you love are there for the long haul.

Walking through each day not being clouded by the expectations of the worst.
Letting go of overthinking.

Being able to express yourself honestly.
Knowing your words will be heard.
Having your emotional needs met without judgment or rejection.

Enjoying a meal without the fear that someone’s mood will disrupt it.
Cooking and sharing a meal without worrying about the complaints.
Feeling valued and appreciated in the spaces you inhabit.

Living a life where you don’t have to apologise for being yourself.
Hearing someone say “I love you” and knowing they truly mean it.
Knowing you’ll be supported and not reprimanded when you share about your bad day.

Living a life full of hope, knowing that the next moment can be better than the last.

I know how hard it is to expect these things when our minds are so used to the opposite as I’m still learning how to embrace these things myself.  Some days, I feel like I’m miles away from this peace. But I know, when you and I begin to release our hurts and embrace what’s possible, we will be amazed at how free we feel.

This, my friend, is the definition of healing.  And it’s waiting for both you and me.

If you’d like to share your journey, I’d love to hear your story. My emails are always open and so is my comment section.

Many Blessings, Grace. Xx

  1. A superb message, beautifully written, filled with truth, courage, resilience, but also hope and expectation. Thank you so much, Grace! Have a wonderful day. Friendly kisses from Auvergne (France).

    1. Amen, thank you so much! I hope you have a wonderful day too. 🤍

  2. I’m sorry to hear that you’ve been through stuff that would keep you from feeling these positive things, sister Grace. But I can’t say I’m familiar with these positive things (yet!) either. I pray God’s best—and most “productive”! — healing for both of us, and for those who are currently (and will one day) be impacted by our ministries. Much love In Him Whom we serve, sally b :)) ✝️♥️🙏

    1. Amen Sally! I will continue to believe that He who started this good work will bring it to completion! Xx

  4. What a beautiful message of hope.
Because it is out there; God offers it, and He offers The Way to that hope, that peace.

    1. Amen! He really does. 🥹

  5. The simplest way to peace is to know The God Who Is, as revealed through Jesus.
“You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.” Isaiah 26:3

  11. Thank you so much, Grace, for sharing such an intimate and powerful story. Your honesty is a gift to so many people who are struggling. Your message is not only comforting, but also inspiring and encouraging. You have become a beacon of hope for those who might feel alone in their suffering. Your actions will help strengthen many souls on their healing journey.

    1. Aw, thank you so much for your kind words. I’m so glad my story can bring hope to many others. Xx

  12. What a gentle and needed reminder that healing often begins with believing a different kind of life is possible. So many of these simple joys feel “hard” only because our hearts have learned to brace for the opposite. But step by step, the Lord teaches us to expect peace instead of turmoil, safety instead of fear, hope instead of dread. Your words shine with that quiet courage. May we both keep moving toward the freedom He’s opening before us—one healed expectation at a time.

    1. Amen. Many blessings to you on your healing journey too. 💕
