Love Without Fear: Trusting God With Your Heart

Love has always felt like both a gift and a risk.  Vulnerable in a way that nothing else is.  And if I’m honest, that vulnerability has often stirred up fear in me.

Fear of being too much.
Fear of not being enough.
Fear of letting someone close, only to be left broken.

This fear has built walls, disguised as protection.  But as I step closer, I see how, at times, they’ve become a form of self-sabotage.

It’s a wrestle between guarding my heart and letting someone in.
Because love always comes with risk.

Yet in that risk, there is also hope.  …A hope that maybe, I might just find a love rooted in patience, gentleness and peace.

I don’t have it all figured out.  But I’m learning, one brave step at a time.

And maybe that’s actually what learning to love without fear really looks like, not the absence of fear but the courage to hold in spite of it.

And who knows, maybe this could all end in heartbreak.
Despite that, I’m confident that no matter what, my Heavenly Father will use the good and the bad, the pain and the beauty, for His glory.

So as I read this story, chapter by chapter… will you stay tuned?

Many Blessings, Grace. Xx

  1. Hope comes from the Father through the Son. Fear is a liar. Fear is the devil trying to defeat Hope. The story has already been written in Hope, who is victorious.

  18. Well written. If most of us were honest I think we would say there is always the fear of rejection in the back of our mind when we dare to be vulnerable. I appreciate your thoughts!

    1. Amen! Thank you for reading! 🤍

  19. Dear Grace, thank you for stopping by, and for sharing your thoughts.
Your title caught my attention as this is what I used as my motto since I was 17, Love Without Fear. I had a little paper before I became a Christian and didn’t even know the meaning on it, I just like it. 15 year later I realised, I was keeping my little note from 1 John 4:18 and I still have it but now keeping it in my Bible.

    1. Majka, it’s not funny. Things of old become new again; an idea, a reflected thought given life by another, and yes, me too, written notes of the past someone else’s thoughts too.
The connection we have, slowly becoming the reality that was hidden.
This is what my memoir is about–our spiritual connection. Until My Dying Day by B. M. Lustol. Published by http://www.dorrancebookstore.com.
      Have a wonderful day!

    2. Wow, that’s so amazing to hear! Thank you for sharing a small part of your story with me and for stopping by to give my post a read. Xx

  21. Fear kills faith. Love unlocks faith. Great blog!

    1. Amen! Thank you for sharing those simple yet powerful words. 💙

  22. Agreed. Love is the biggest risk because we never know if it will be accepted or not. Being vulnerable takes courage. But if we have God, He will guide us through our love relationships. Grace, also thank you for ‘liking’ my post on Gaza. Love to you dear sister in-Christ.

    1. Amen! And thank you for reading this. 🥰

  24. So true, Grace! You are brave in your openness and honesty. <3 And as we draw nearer to God, we're able to sense Him guiding us to the left or the right. I can relate to what you wrote. I admit that I made a god out of relationships with men. I pursued them so that I could find a person who would support me and meet my emotional needs. But I should have been pursuing God alone because He is the only one who is capable of meeting all my needs. I feel so free now, and safe, in dependence on God. May He carry you through this tough time, Grace, and demonstrate how trustworthy He is! He truly is the Rock.

    1. Amen! Thank you so much for your encouragement and for sharing your heart. 🥹

  25. Grace, thank you for putting words to the tender place where courage and caution meet. What you’ve named is holy ground. Scripture never calls love painless; it calls it patient, kind, longsuffering, truthful (1 Corinthians 13). And it tells us that fear and love cannot share the same throne forever—“There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear” (1 John 4:18). That doesn’t mean we never tremble; it means, as you said, we tremble forward. “What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee” (Psalm 56:3). Trust is the thin but mighty bridge over the canyon of “what if.”

One small picture that helps me: in Nehemiah’s day, Jerusalem needed walls—and gates. Walls without gates become prisons; gates without walls invite harm. Wisdom builds both. “Keep thy heart with all diligence” (Proverbs 4:23)—that’s the wall. But open the gates at set times (see Nehemiah 7:3)—that’s discerned vulnerability. Let the Lord be the watchman on the wall (Psalm 127:1), and let kindness be the key that turns the hinge. Boundaries are not the opposite of love; they are the trellis that lets love climb with beauty and order.

You’re right that love is a risk. Heaven knows that best. Jesus “came unto his own, and his own received him not” (John 1:11), yet He “loved them unto the end” (John 13:1). The cross shows us that love may be wounded, but it is never wasted; God gathers every shard and fashions it for good. “The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms” (Deuteronomy 33:27). Even heartbreak can become hallowed ground where hope takes deeper root, for “the LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart” (Psalm 34:18).

Here’s a hidden gem to carry with you: the Spirit does not ask you to manufacture fearless love; He pours it in. “The love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost” (Romans 5:5). Your brave, honest steps are not solitary; they are Spirit-steadied. And the outcome is not the measure of success—faithfulness is. He who began a good work in you “will perform it” (Philippians 1:6). So keep turning the pages. The Author is still writing, and He never wastes a line. “Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast” (Hebrews 6:19).

Heavenly Father, thank You for teaching us to love with wisdom and courage. When fear rises, help us whisper, “What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee” (Psalm 56:3). Guard our hearts well (Proverbs 4:23), yet teach us when to open the gate with grace. Let Your “perfect love” (1 John 4:18) be the air we breathe and the strength we lean on. If joy comes, teach us praise; if pain comes, hold us fast—“underneath are the everlasting arms” (Deuteronomy 33:27). And in all things, let our story show forth Thy glory. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Many blessings back to you Grace.

    1. Amen, thank you for sharing all these verses and your heart so openly. ❤️

  26. I agree with you Grace love for sure is, “both a gift and a risk” but, it’s also worth taking chances. God gave us heart to feel love and faith to take a risk to love or be love. I also liked when you wrote, “I’m confident that no matter what, my Heavenly Father will use the good and the bad, the pain and the beauty, for His glory.”

    1. Amen! Thank you for reading and for your continued support. Xx

  27. Yes, I too will stay tuned and let me encourage you to consider adopting Psalms 91: 1-16 as an important verse that you should use to read and pray over, always seeking our Heavenly Father above protection and guidance in the divine blood of Jesus Christ. I believe that whatsoever you ask for in the divine blood of Jesus Christ. You will most definitely, receive.

Continue to trust Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior;and, our Heavenly Father above.

    Blessings ❤️🙏☺️
